1. WORKSHOP ON PATENT CLAIMS CONSTRUCTION


A workshop on Patent Claim Construction was conducted on 18th February, 2022 by Ramaiah College of Law in collaboration with Ramaiah Intellectual Property Rights Cell (RIPRC) and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). The Workshop focuses on the patent transactions practice including patent licensing and patent litigation. The resource person for the session was Dr. Sarasija Padmanabhan, Patent Agent and Advisory member of PIC, KSCST & Tutor at WIPO.


2. INTRODUCTION TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND SENSITIZATION TO RAMAIAH IP POLICY


A Sensitisation programme for different colleges under Ramaiah institutions was conducted by Ramaiah centre for intellectual property rights in the month of April. Ms. Sangeetha Murali, Assistant professor of Law from Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property was the resource person. She highlighted the importance of the In-house IP policy, revenue generation from patents, commercialization of patents, the importance of IPs for NIRF & NAAC, entrepreneurship, the introduction of IP early in the curriculum, course objectives etc.


3. CONSULTATION FOR KAGGA RICE


As a legal aid initiative, in association with VTPC, DIC, Karwar and Assistant Commissioner, Kumta and Ramaiah College of Law, a research team visited Kumta to identify and investigate the situation related to Kagga Rice and gain information for a prospective GI Tag. The research team held several meetings with the farmers and other important stakeholders discussing the relevant aspects concerned with the GI Application. The team also conducted interviews with Kagga growing farmers in the village of Manikatta in Uttara Kannada District. A GI Application was filed on behalf of the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Center.


4. CONSULTATION FOR GOKAK TOYS


The research team visited Gokak to research the feasibility of registration of Gokak Toys as a GI. The team consulted a few artisans and collected information who were still creating Gokak Toys, which is unique in making realistic-looking toys in the form of fruit and vegetables.



5. CONSULTATION FOR BELGAUM KUNDA


The centre visited manufacturers of Kunda, a famous sweet popular in the Belgaum district of Karnataka on 4.11.2022. The researchers also interacted with the producers, provided legal aid consultations and collected information for the GI filling of Belgaum Kunda.S. The application of GI filling of Belgaum Kunda is still in process.



6. CONSULTATION FOR SHIVARAPATNA STONE CRAFT


The RIPRC in collaboration with the VTPC, provided legal aid consultation to the artisans of Shivarapatna village, which is also known as a heritage village for stonecraft on 28th and 29th September, 2022. Closed group discussions and awareness was provided to the producers regarding Geographical indication in the presence of representatives of District Industries Center Kolar. The application was submitted on September,2022 to the GI registry.


7. LEGAL AID FOR KARADANT


The centre visited Gokak and Belgavi on 3rd November 2022 for extending legal aid and consultation for the makers of Karadant, a famous sweet from Gokak and Amingad which is made using jaggery and dry fruits. The team met with the artisans, provided closed group discussions with the manufacturer of Kardant. The application of GI filling of Kardant is ongoing.


8. LEGAL AID CONSULTATIONS FOR HASE CHITTARA


The research team conducted a field survey and legal aid consultations on 04th November 2022 at Sirivantha' village in Sagara (Shimoga) for hase chittara artisans. The team conducted interviews and discussions with Local Producers, Community Members regarding Hase Chittara. The team worked on the GI application of Hase Chitra and submitted the respective application to the GI registrar in August, 2023.
