About Us

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (RCIPR) was established in collaboration with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology(KSCST) to create awareness and management of intellectual property (IP) among the Institution under the Gokula Education Foundation (Medical), Gokula Education Foundation (Eng. & G.Sc.) and Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. It shall be the premier facilitator in research and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Intellectual Property Rights for the Ramaiah Group of Institutions. Ramaiah College of Law has been designated as the nodal agency for RCIPR.

Since 2019, the Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights has upheld an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Department of Industries, Government of Karnataka. This strategic partnership is dedicated to facilitating and offering expert consultations on Geographical Indications (GI) specific to the state of Karnataka.

Apart from the in-situ management of intellectual property, RCIPR has the responsibility to provide legal awareness and assistance to the public concerning various aspects of intellectual property. The centre also conducts research and extension activities concerning multiple dimensions of intellectual property, individually and in association with various governmental and non-governmental agencies. It also provides legal aid regarding intellectual property to government organisations/ marginalised communities/ women/ start-up ventures/ micro small and medium enterprises etc.

Under this MoU, the Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights has undertaken several key activities related to Geographical Indications, including:

  1. Feasibility and Diagnostic Studies: Identifying potential and existing GI products from Karnataka and conducting comprehensive feasibility and diagnostic studies to assess their viability and scope.
  2. GI Application Formalities: Assisting in the completion of formalities associated with the filing of GI applications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and successful registration.
  3. Authorised User Registration Drives: Organizing and conducting registration drives to facilitate the registration of authorised users of GI products, ensuring that stakeholders are formally recognized and can benefit from the GI status.
  4. Legal Aid and Awareness Programs: Conducting legal aid sessions and awareness programs to educate stakeholders about the procedures and benefits associated with various GI products, enhancing their understanding and promoting the use of GIs for economic and cultural development.

To be pioneer in knowledge dissemination and research in intellectual property rights, thereby creating an informed community of IP stakeholders.

  • To promote research and awareness among the stakeholders on different aspects of intellectual property rights.
  • To create awareness about the importance of protection of intellectual endeavour among the Ramaiah Group of Institutions.
  • To aid the creators in the matter of protection and management of Intellectual Property rights.
  • Extending compliance support and capacity building to potential intellectual property holders from marginalised communities, women etc to enable them to protect their rights and self-empowerment.
  • To work towards the promotion and preservation of traditional knowledge, plant varieties, geographical indications etc., enabling sustainable development.
  • To be a facilitator between the stakeholders and various governmental organisations working towards the promotion of intellectual property rights.

  • To provide a platform for research and to encourage scholarly works in the area of intellectual property rights.
  • To help institutions/ organisations to come up with prudent intellectual property management practices.
  • To provide legal aid compliance and a consensual dispute resolution platform for matters related to intellectual property.
  • To conduct awareness programmes/ workshops/ seminars/ conferences etc on areas related to intellectual property.
  • To raise awareness and work towards the preservation and promotion of various forms of IP with special reference to traditional knowledge, plant varieties, geographical indications, etc.,.
