1. LEGAL AID, CONSULTATION AND STAKEHOLDERS' MEETING FOR REGISTERING TIPTUR COCONUT AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights carried out a legal aid and consultation at Tiptur, Tumkur district on 1st January 2024 , which is known for its unique coconut cultivation, aiming to file a Geographical Indication application for Tiptur Coconut and Coconut Products. The team engaged in legal awareness sessions, open discussions with Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) and Farmer Producer Organization(FPO), documenting the cultivation and Marketing processes. Challenges, Milestones and the traditional methods were highlighted by the stakeholders, emphasising the pursuit of GI tag .

2. LEGAL AID, CONSULTATION AND CLOSE GROUP DISCUSSION WITH PRODUCERS OF JONNI BELLA.

On 22 January 2024, Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Research (RCIPR) conducted a stakeholder consultation at Sirsi as part of the process for preparing the Geographical Indication application for Joni Bella. The consultation involved interactions with producers and other key stakeholders to document the product's unique characteristics, traditional production practices, and geographical linkages. As part of the consultation, the team visited production units, interacted with a women-led cooperative milk society, and held discussions at the Dodnalli Shambulingeshwara Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) with its President, Chief Executive Officer, Executive Members, and cultivators.

The consultation highlighted the cultural and traditional significance of Joni Bella, its strong association with the local community and the role of Geographical Indications in preserving traditional knowledge, promoting sustainable production practices, and enhancing the market value of region-specific products.

3. LEGAL AID CONSULTATION AND CLOSE GROUP DISCUSSION REGARDING FORMATION OF PRODUCERS ORGANIZATION FOR HASE CHITRA.

On January 22, 2024, a research team of Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights conducted a data collection at Siddapura, Karnataka with a meeting held at the residence of Mr. Ishwara Naik, a renowned ‘Hase Chittara’ artist who holds copyrights for his paintings. The meeting aimed to educate him about cooperative societies and encourage him to form one. Discussions included the origin and significance of ‘Hase Chittara,’ with Mr. Naik sharing insights into his student period, contributions to the art field, and dedication to his passion. He highlighted his unique master subject focused on human behavior, marriage, and festivals in Uttara Kannada District. Trained by his mother in ‘Hase Chittara,’ the meeting concluded by focusing on the establishment of a cooperative society, with Mr. Naik's daughters continued his artistic legacy as budding ‘Hase Chittara’ artists.

4. LEGAL AID, CONSULTATION AND CLOSE GROUP DISCUSSION REGARDING FORMATION OF PRODUCERS ORGANIZATION. - KAAVI KALE.

On January 23rd, 2024, Research team of Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights visited the 'Arda Ganapathi' temple in Banavasi, Uttara Kannada. The temple's four pillars were adorned with vibrant 'Kaavi Kale' paintings, each displaying intricate and unique designs and had a discussion with the temple priest . The temple is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), ensuring the preservation of its paintings, sculptures, and overall structure. Later that day, a visit to the 'Jain Temple' near Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada, revealed no evidence of 'Kaavi Kale' artwork. Similar to the 'Arda Ganapathi' temple, the 'Jain Temple' is also protected by the ASI. The experience concluded with satisfaction at witnessing authentic 'Kaavi Kale' at the protected 'Arda Ganapathi' temple.

5. A COMPREHENSIVE LEGAL AWARENESS AND STAKEHOLDER GROUP DISCUSSION FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY REPORT - SANIKATTA SALT.

On 24th January 2024, a research team of Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights conducted a data collection and stakeholder consultation at the Sanikatta Salt Cooperative Society, Gokarna. A meeting was held with the stakeholders of The Nagarabail Salt Owners Cooperative Society Ltd., which is the only owners’ cooperative society in India established during the pre-independence period under British rule and continues to function to this day. The study focused on traditional and modern techniques, ecological footprints, community dynamics, and identified challenges and opportunities. The primary objective was to compile information for the Feasibility Study Report of the Geographical Indication product, Sanikatta Salt.

6. LEGAL AID, CONSULTATION AND FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR HONNAVAR BETEL LEAF

On January 24th, 2024, a research team of Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights conducted data collection and stakeholder consultation at Arolli village in Honnavar Taluk of Uttara Kannada District in connection with the Geographical Indication application for Honnavar Betel Leaf. The team interacted with local farmers and sellers, including Mr. Dattatraya Bhat and Mr. Satish Bhat, who emphasized the uniqueness of the betel leaf, its cultivation process, and the specific manures used. Additionally, the historical significance of “Rani Elle” was discussed. The consultation enriched the understanding of the product and supported all the stakeholders’ collaborative efforts towards the protection of this unique product.

7. LEGAL AID, CONSULTATION AND CLOSE GROUP DISCUSSION REGARDING FORMATION OF PRODUCERS ORGANIZATION - KAGGA RICE

On January 24th, 2024, a research team of Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights conducted data collection and stakeholder consultation at the Gazani land in Manikatta village in relation to the Geographical Indication application and discussions regarding the formation of a cooperative society. A meeting was convened with a group of Kagga rice farmers, including well-known individuals such as Manjunath Patgar, Ramchandra Patgar, Ganesh Patgar, and Shridhar Pai, and was chaired by the Ramaiah Intellectual Property Rights Cell to deliberate on the creation of a cooperative society. The discussion primarily focused on the need to obtain a Geographical Indication tag for their prized rice variety.

8. VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “PATENT PRACTICE & PROCEDURE: PRE-GRANT TRANSACTIONS”

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (RCIPR) in collaboration with Ramaiah College of Law conducted a Value Added course on Patent Transactions: Compliance and Practice from 11 January 2024 to 13 March 2024. The Course intended to focus on pre- grant patent transactions at the Patent Office and the practice and compliance related to the same. The course addressed a mix of legal and transactional issues that IP Lawyers face regarding patent filing, preliminary skills in drafting the Patent Applications Prior Art Search and the vital issues in the field of IP practice. The resource persons for the course were Ms. Sangeetha Murali S ,Assistant Professor & Coordinator, RCIPR and Dr Sarasija Padmanbhan, Patent Agent and WIPO Tutor. The course was attended by the final year students of Ramaiah College of Law.

9. POSTER MAKING COMPETITION - WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY 2024

Inspired by the theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2024: “Intellectual Property and the Sustainable Development Goals: Building our common future with innovation and creativity”, RCIPR conducted a poster-making competition titled ‘ Canvas Clash : A poster art spectacle on 23.05.2024. The competition aimed to raise understanding among the students about the importance of advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Innovation and Creativity. The competition focused on two themes: "Innovation towards food security and sustainable development" and "IP’s for the upliftment of rural and indigenous communities." The event also aspired to create an open source database of posters which can be used to create awareness during various events conducted by KSCST and other governmental and non-governmental organisations. The posters would be freely accessible to all the stakeholders for promoting SDGs during any non-profit activity with due acknowledgement. This event was open to students of Ramaiah College of Law, and all students throughout the state. Submissions were taken through digital forms of art as well as traditional methods. There were a total of 59 participants.

10. WORKSHOP ON ‘LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR PRODUCER ORGANISATIONS IN INDIA’

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (RCIPR) hosted a workshop titled 'Legal Framework for Producer Organizations in India' on 30th May 2024. The event, aimed at exploring the legal framework of producer organisations, focused on the significant role these entities play in empowering artisans, farmers, and manufacturing communities, thereby contributing to the economy. Dr. S.B.N. Prakash, retired District and Sessions Judge and adjunct professor at Ramaiah College of Law, led the session, providing valuable insights into the impact of co-operative societies on Geographical Indications tagged products. Dr. Prakash discussed the importance of Intellectual Property, specifically GIs, in adding unique value to regional products and enhancing market recognition.


1. CONSULTATION FOR REGISTERING KAVI KALE AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

The research team from RCIPR conducted data collection for the consultation regarding Kavi Kale on 02-11-2022. The purpose of the survey was to document the observations and findings along with understanding the scope and significance of the Kaavi Kale to identify the product as a GI. A research team of the centre met the Kaavi artists ,where they gave insights about the art form and showed the process of encompassing the Kaavi Kale. The consultation also helped in gaining an overview on the current status of the production process, its cultural significance , quality of the product, and its market condition.

2. LEGAL AID AND AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR THE PRODUCERS OF JONI BELLA

A research team from RCIPR carried out a data collection exercise documenting the process of production of Joni Bella at Ankola, Uttara Kannada. They recorded the raw materials used and the different stages of production involved in the process of making the Joni Bella. A Legal Aid and Awareness program was started for the producers for the revival of cultivation & production at Hillur and Haigunda in Uttara Kannada District. The team discussed the issues they are facing for the revival of the cultivation & production of Joni Bella. The initiative is coordinated by district industry centre Uttara-Kannada.

3. LEGAL AID AND CONSULTATION FOR MAVINKURVE LOCKS AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

The research team from RCIPR visited Mavinkurve, Uttar Kannada on 17th Feb 2023 and conducted legal aid and consultation to the artisans who are preparing a unique kind of lock, known for their dual mechanism which cannot be opened with a duplicate key. The research team collected the required information for studying the feasibility of filling the GI Application. The interactions were facilitated by Buda Folklore, a Local NGO based in Uttara Kannada.

4. DATA COLLECTION FOR THE FEASIBILITY STUDY OF SHEDI ART AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

The research team from RCIPR conducted a survey about the Shedi Art at Ankola to find the feasibility of filling it as GI from Karnataka. The team interviewed the local Halakki tribe women and tried to find out all the details about this artform. The team is in the process of preparing a report about the feasibility of this artform to be registered as GI of Karnataka.

5. LEGAL AID PROGRAMME & STAKEHOLDERS MEETING FOR HADAGALI MALLIGAE PRODUCERS AT HUVINAHADAGALI, VIJAYANAGARA

As part of the research project funded by Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, the Department of Industries, Government of Karnataka to study the post-registration impacts of Geographical indication registration on Hadagali Mallige, a research team from RCIPR provided legal awareness to the producers regarding the prospects of the GI tag and conducted a stakeholders meeting at Devagondanahalli, Huvina Hadagali Taluk of Vijaya Nagara District on 9th and 10th July 2023. The stakeholders meeting was attended by the Producers of Hadagali Mallige, the officials from the District Information Centre at Vijayapura and other stakeholders.

6. DATA COLLECTION FOR THE FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR SHARAVATHI RIVER WATER REED MATS AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

A research team from RCIPR visited Honnavara on 17th February 2023. The research team documented the production process and conducted interviews with stakeholders to study the feasibility of filing a Geographical indication application for Sharavathi River Water Reed Mats. The research team also interacted with the women Producers of the product from the island and the problems they are facing relating to market access and the prospects for creating a self-help group to promote Women entrepreneurs.

7. DATA COLLECTION FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR GARUDADRI PAINTING AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

A research team from RCIPR visited Surupur, Yadgir District of Karnataka on 7th July 2023. The research team documented the production process and interviewed stakeholders to study the feasibility of filing a Geographical indication application for the Product. The team also conducted interviews with the stakeholders to identify the historical evidence relating to the art and the marketing trends.

8. WORLD IP DAY INITIATIVE 2023: FREE LEGAL AID AND CONSULTATION FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights In association with Visveshwaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Department of Industries, Government of Karnataka in tune with the World Intellectual Property Organisation Theme for IP Day 2023 “ Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity” started an initiative on 26th April 2023 aimed to provide free legal aid and consultation to the rural women entrepreneurs of Karnataka to create empowerment. The Initiative aims to bring Women Entrepreneurs from Rural Karnataka to the mainstream, who are involved in the Production of prospective and Registered Geographical Indications from the State in bringing the GI-tagged and prospective products to the mainstream. The venture aims to combine the Legal and technical expertise available amongst the Ramaiah Group of Institutions in enabling support regarding the legal compliances in starting small business ventures, Market-related survey training etc, and other technical assistance like the creation of e-commerce platforms in collaboration with various government departments.

9. NATIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS TRANSACTIONS, PRACTICE & LITIGATION - WORKSHOP SERIES II PATENT TRANSACTIONS, PRACTICE AND LITIGATION

A 5 days extensive workshop series has been conducted on Patent transactions, Practice and Litigation from 8th August to 12th August 2023. This workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Cell for IPR Promotion and Management CIPAM, Government of India and the Indian Patent Office. Different sessions during the workshop were handled by Preemies in the field of Intellectual Property from the Academia, the Indian Patent Office and the Bar. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. T. Ramakrishna Chair Professor, IPR &, Ministry of HRD Chair on Intellectual Property, National Law School of India in the presence of Mr B. S. Ramaprasad Chief Executive Gokula Educational Foundation (Eng & G.Sc.)& Chairperson, Ramaiah Intellectual Property Rights Cell and Prof. Umamahesh Sathyanarayan, Principal, Ramaiah College of Law. The Workshop was intended to bridge the Accademia industry gap in matters concerning patent transactions for Law students.

1. WORKSHOP ON PATENT CLAIMS CONSTRUCTION

A workshop on Patent Claim Construction was conducted on 18th February, 2022 by Ramaiah College of Law in collaboration with Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). The Workshop focused on the patent transactions practice including patent licensing and patent litigation. The resource person for the session was Dr. Sarasija Padmanabhan, Patent Agent and Advisory member of PIC, KSCST & Tutor at WIPO.

2. INTRODUCTION TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND SENSITIZATION TO RAMAIAH IP POLICY

A Sensitisation programme for different colleges under Ramaiah institutions was conducted by Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights in the month of April. Ms. Sangeetha Murali, Assistant professor of Law, Ramaiah College of Law & Coordinator, RCIPR was the resource person. The session highlighted the importance of the In-house IP policy, revenue generation from patents, commercialization of patents, the importance of IPs for NIRF & NAAC, entrepreneurship, the introduction of IP early in the curriculum, course objectives etc.

3. CONSULTATION FOR REGISTERING KAGGA RICE AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

As a legal aid initiative, in association with VTPC, DIC, Karwar and Assistant Commissioner, Kumta and Ramaiah College of Law, a research team from RCIPR visited Kumta to identify and investigate the situation related to Kagga Rice and gain information for a prospective GI Tag. The research team held several meetings with the farmers and other important stakeholders discussing the relevant aspects concerned with the GI Application. The team also conducted interviews with Kagga growing farmers in the village of Manikatta in Uttara Kannada District.

4. CONSULTATION FOR REGISTERING GOKAK TOYS AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

A research team from RCIPR visited Gokak to conduct the data collection for research on the feasibility of registration of Gokak Toys as a prospective GI. The team consulted a few artisans and collected information who were still creating Gokak Toys, which is unique in making realistic-looking toys in the form of fruit and vegetables.

5. CONSULTATION FOR BELGAUM KUNDA

The centre visited manufacturers of Kunda, a famous sweet popular in the Belgaum district of Karnataka on 4.11.2022. The researchers also interacted with the producers, provided legal aid consultations and collected information for the GI filling of Belgaum Kunda.S. The application of GI filling of Belgaum Kunda is still in process.

6. CONSULTATION FOR SHIVARAPATNA STONE CRAFT

The RIPRC in collaboration with the VTPC, provided legal aid consultation to the artisans of Shivarapatna village, which is also known as a heritage village for stonecraft on 28th and 29th September, 2022. Closed group discussions and awareness was provided to the producers regarding Geographical indication in the presence of representatives of District Industries Center Kolar. The application was submitted on September,2022 to the GI registry.

7. LEGAL AID FOR KARADANT

The centre visited Gokak and Belgavi on 3rd November 2022 for extending legal aid and consultation for the makers of Karadant, a famous sweet from Gokak and Amingad which is made using jaggery and dry fruits. The team met with the artisans, provided closed group discussions with the manufacturer of Kardant. The application of GI filling of Kardant is ongoing.

8. LEGAL AID CONSULTATIONS FOR HASE CHITTARA

The research team conducted a field survey and legal aid consultations on 04th November 2022 at Sirivantha' village in Sagara (Shimoga) for hase chittara artisans. The team conducted interviews and discussions with Local Producers, Community Members regarding Hase Chittara. The team worked on the GI application of Hase Chitra and submitted the respective application to the GI registrar in August, 2023.

1. CONSULTATION FOR THE FEASIBILITY STUDY OF MYSORE PAK AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

A study into the feasibility of applying for the Geographical Indication tag for Mysore Pak (Commissioned by Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka) was conducted by Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights in March 2021. The study pertained to the trend of food stuffs that got GI including how the officials have accepted or rejected the geographical indication tag for food stuffs. It also analysed the historical origin, uniqueness, special characteristics and geographical area of the authentic Mysore Pak and submitted the report as an expert opinion to the government.

1. AN EXPLORATORY STUDY INTO PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION OF KARNATAKA-MYSORE ROSEWOOD INLAY

RCIPR carried out a comprehensive data collection and completed an exploratory study as part of a collaborative research project on the Geographical Indication of ‘Mysore Rosewood Inlay’, in association with Ramaiah College of Law and Ramaiah Institute of Management. The study was commissioned by the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka.

2. WORKSHOPS ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

One day workshops on “Intellectual Property Rights” were held on 24 January 2020 and 11 February 2020 jointly organised by RIT, RCIPR, KSCST and Cell for IPR promotion and Management (CIPAM), Govt. Of India. Sixty participants from Ramaiah Institute of Technology, faculty members and Research staff and PhD Scholars attended the event.

3. CONSULTATION FOR REGISTERING PATTEDA ANCHU SAREES AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

The consultation regarding GI filing for Patteda Anchu Sarees was taken up during the month of September 2020 where the centre identified and explored all the necessary aspects required for filing an application for gaining a GI Tag for Patteda Anchu Saree. A research team was set up to identify all the factors required for a prospective GI Product and several meetings with the core stakeholders were conducted and a GI Application for Patteda Anchu Saree was filed by Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights on behalf of Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Center, Department of Industries, Government of Karnataka and Commissioner of handlooms Government of Karnataka.

4. CONSULTATION FOR REGISTERING MELKOTE PANCHE AS A PROSPECTIVE GI FROM KARNATAKA

RCIPR conducted a consultation on behalf of the Government of Karnataka with regard to the filing of an application for getting Geographical Indication Tag for Melkote Panche. A study was taken up as to whether Melkote Panche needs to be promoted so as to retain the traditional art with the touch of modern technologies in terms of design, intricacy, and quality. The study was concluded as the feasibility of registration was found to be not satisfactory as the weavers and makers of the particular craft were limited in number.

1. INAUGURATION OF THE CENTRE

Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (RCIPR) was inaugurated on 29th January 2019 by Dr. T. Ramakrishna, Professor of Law, Chair Professor (IPR), National Law School of India University Bengaluru. Dr. Arkalgud Ramaprasad, Director Public Policy Centre and Prof. S Subramanian, Secretary KSCST presided over the Function. The centre was established in collaboration with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) to create awareness and management of Intellectual Property among the Ramaiah Group of Institutions and enable an innovation-oriented research ecosystem and provoke necessary aid, guidance and support to facilitate the protection of various intellectual properties.

2. TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

A two day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights for the Research and Teaching faculty and Staff of all Institutions under the group. The workshop ensured the dissemination of information on fostering a culture of innovative research among the academic fraternity and the importance of intellectual property protection to the staff and members of faculty of different Ramiah intuitions.

The workshop was organised by considering the diverse needs of each discipline/department by bifurcating the workshop into 3 parallel sessions and dividing the Faculty/ disciplines / Departments of the various intuitions into three groups:

  1. Medicine / Life Sciences/ Ayurveda/Biotechnological/ Engineering / Pharmacy
  2. Eng. Sciences / Physics / Chemistry/ Polytechnic
  3. Law/ Humanities/ Commerce/ Management

The workshop focused on aspects pertaining to the patentability of medical innovations, hands-on sessions on the patenting procedure and prior art search, Understanding Copyright Protection procedure, trademark protection procedure, geographical indications, and IP management commercialisation along with IP Portfolio Management, IP Securitisation and IP Audit, Software Patenting, Telecommunication and Engineering Innovations and IP Strategy.

118 participants attended the workshop from various departments of Ramaiah institutions.





3. AN EXPLORATORY STUDY INTO BIDRIWARE AND AUTHORISED USERS REGISTRATION DRIVE FOR BIDRIWARE ARTISANS

A project titled ‘An Exploratory Study into the Problems and Prospects of Bidriware & Authorised Users Drive for the Registration of Bidriware Artisans under the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999’. was taken up by Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Rights in August 2019 as a part of the MOU between RCIPR and Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTPC), Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka to identify the problems faced by the artisans of Bidriware Handicraft from the Bidar District of Karnataka. The exploratory study was undertaken to identify the social, economic and legal problems faced by the artisans of Bidriware and provide futuristic solutions and suggestions to the Government of Karnataka, to facilitate the welfare of the artisans and the craft. During the course of the research, the artisans traditionally practising the craft were identified and provided with the necessary legal aid from RCIPR and financial aid from VTPC to facilitate their registration as Authorised Users under the geographical indications of Goods ( Registration and Protection ) Act, 1999.

4. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY WEEK (25TH – 30TH APRIL 2019)

As a part of the World Intellectual Property Day 2019, RCIPR in Association with KSCST and CIPAM celebrated IP Week and conducted various competitions and workshops to spread awareness about various dimensions of intellectual property to various stakeholders and the public. A quiz competition, Poster making competition, treasure hunt, debate competition and photography competitions were conducted among students from various Ramaiah institutions and the winners were awarded prize money in recognition of their achievements.

5. ONE DAY STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON IP AND SPORTS - 27TH APRIL 2019

A one day state level workshop was organised on Intellectual property and Sports on 27th April, 2019 with regard to the WIPO theme for IP Day 2019. The workshop disseminated information about the relevance of Intellectual Property in the Sports arena. It focused on sensitising those working and interacting with various sporting events and activities about IP they deal with during the course of activities. The workshop was attended by Physical education Directors / Instructors of various institutions/ universities across Karnataka and other stakeholders. The workshop covered different aspects of Intellectual property rights and sports industry including Technological Innovations in Sports Arena , Trademark in sports and Copyright in sports.

6. IP MARATHON

An IP Run , “Track for IP “ was organised on 29th April 2019 from RCIPR to KSCST and backed by the students and the staff of KSCST in order to increase public awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights in promoting innovation, creativity, and economic growth. It also aimed at increasing community engagement by bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in an innovative and educational event.

7. ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON MANAGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IN LIFE SCIENCES INDUSTRY

A one day workshop was organised for the Post Graduate Students of Life Sciences from Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 30th April 2019 as part of the IP week celebrations. The workshop focused on providing insights into the regulatory landscape specific to the life sciences industry and its impact on IP management. The workshop was divided into different sessions on patentability of innovations in the life sciences industry.

8. TWO DAY MASTER TRAINER PROGRAMS ON MANAGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

A two day training program was conducted on 17th and 18th June 2019 in collaboration with Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology (KSCST) and Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India as a part of induction and training for the newly appointed IP Coordinators of IPR Committees/ IP Committees / Innovation cells etc of Ramaiah Group of Institutions. The training program was conducted to make the institutions self-sufficient in coordination of matters pertaining to filing of patent applications etc. The session was divided into 2 days where different subject matter experts conducted training on Patentability Criteria, Indian Patent Filing Process,Prior art / novelty Search, IP Schemes and National IP Policy, IP Management and protection of IP for Academic Institutions. 43 participants from across different institutions and departments of Ramaiah Institutions took part in the training program.
